5 Scenic Drives for RVs

Despite the travel restrictions that the world has seen over the past year, it’s still a great time for scenic drives. Taking a scenic drive in an RV offers the best of both worlds, as you can enjoy the beauty all around you without sacrificing the “comfort of home.” If you are looking for the best scenic drives for RVs (at least in the U.S.), check out our guide.

Scenic RV Drives in the United States

Of course, the country is packed with beautiful mountains, lakes, canyons, and wildlife scenery. However, the following drives are just highlights of all that the United States has to offer. Consider scheduling one of the following drives for your next RV adventure.

1. Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a well-known but stunning drive through Virginia and North Carolina. One of its notable features is that it is the longest park drive in America, running 469 miles. The scenery overlooks a vast expanse of trees, sky, hills, and mountains. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets cast a golden light over the rich view, making it a must-see for every RV traveler. As an added bonus, there are plenty of scenic stops and attractions along the way.

2. Talimena Scenic Byway

Although much shorter than the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Talimena Scenic Byway is a necessary drive for every traveler near Oklahoma or Arkansas. Running 54 miles along the Ouachita National Forest, the Talimena drive provides a rich view of mountain horizons. The drive begins at Talimena State Park (in Talihina, OK) and ends in Perrysville, Arkansas.

As beautiful as this drive is at any time of the year, its true beauty is enjoyed at the turn of autumn. With so many trees and mountains to look at, the rich autumnal colors provide a feast for the eye.

3. Going-to-the-Sun Road

If you are wondering, yes, the Going-to-the-Sun Road is as cool as its name! Named for a mountain that you can see from the drive, this Montana road runs through Glacier National Park. A bright blue sky, vibrant green nature, and white, snow-capped mountains make this drive well worth the time.

4. Highway 101

Oregon is home to tons of beautiful scenery, and Highway 101 is no exception. Drive along this 300-mile stretch on the coast of Oregon for a stunning view of the sea, cliffs, and sky on one side and beautiful farmland on the other. Unlike many scenic drives, Highway 101 remains fairly open and easy to navigate, making it perfect for RV travelers.

5. Cascade Lakes

If you don’t have time for a 300-mile drive, but you are in the northwest, don’t miss the 66-mile trip through the Cascade Lakes in Oregon. 14 lakes, countless towering mountains, and a thriving forest make this view something of a fairytale. If you want to enjoy more than just a drive, schedule time for hiking, skiing, or kayaking.

Want to Improve Your Trip?

To make your scenic drive even more enjoyable, consider investing in RV accessories. A high-quality awning offers protection from sun, rain, and wind. Likewise, a cooling misting system allows you to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors without sacrificing your comfort.
